Kamlesh is a mediator, coach and assessor for Conflict Dynamics and has trained attorneys and advocates in mediation skills for the Law Society of South Africa (LEAD). She trained election monitors in mediation skills on behalf of the Centre for Conflict Resolution (UCT) for South Africa’s first democratic election in 1994. She trained CCMA Commissioners on behalf of IMSSA from 1997 and on behalf of the CCMA thereafter. Kamlesh trained Bargaining Council staff on behalf of the CCMA. She has also trained private companies on the Employment Equity Act.
Kamlesh Ker holds degrees in law and social science from the University of South Africa (UNISA). Kamlesh currently practices as an attorney for her own account specializing in alternative dispute resolution (ADR), labour law and property law. She is a consultant to Gunston Strandvik Attorneys and has extensive experience as a trainer, mediator, arbitrator, and facilitator. Kamlesh chairs disciplinary hearings for high profile private and government organizations and has chaired the University of the Western Cape’s Disciplinary Committee since 1993. She was accredited as a mediator by Centre for Effective Dispute Resolution (CEDR) and the ADR Group (UK) in 2008.
Kamlesh became a CCMA commissioner at its inception and trained CCMA and Bargaining Council Commissioners from 1997 to 2004. She wrote training materials in substantive law and arbitration skills for the CCMA. Kamlesh chaired the Cape Law Society’s ADR Committee for several years. Kamlesh was also on the Independent Mediation Service of South Africa (IMSSA) panel from 1994 until its demise. She trained as a community and political mediator in 1992 at UCT’s Centre for Conflict Resolution for which she facilitated the resolution of community disputes. Kamlesh was articled to Dullah Omar where she engaged in civil rights and labour work in the early 1980’s. In 1995, Kamlesh became a family mediator.
